Album Notes
As a director, my main goal and thematic vision was to stay true to the source material, which was Fernando Pessoa's seminal work, The Book of Disquiet. With any page you turn to, Fernando's writing touches upon so many different emotions in a relatively short period of time. Angst, boredom, frustration, and a never-ending dejected resignation from life, are so vividly portrayed on the page, and despite this sea of disquiet, Fernando still peppers in glimpses of hope, love, an appreciation for aesthetics, and a never-ending curiosity of the human experience.

Musically, I knew I had to hire a composer that not only understood the emotional journey of the book, but who also had the skills and ability to ultimately capture the cinematic expression of the book. I knew that Robert Slover fundamentally understood the type of film I was making. Every step of the way, Robert's suggestions and feedback became a regular part of the post-production process. I remember Robert mentioning how having the right instrumentation for each moment would serve the film's story arch. Whether it was the sitar drone to denote a long deep contemplation, or the endearing harmonies of a piano/guitar duo as a backdrop for hope, he knew it was essential to have the composition align with the arrangements, and invariably, the emotional delivery.

For this soundtrack album, we have also added some tracks not explored in the film itself, but tracks that go beyond the film to ultimately capture Bobby's world. It's a world we can all relate to. It's a world filled with the full spectrum of emotions, and to that end, we hope this album is as fulfilling to listen to as it was to create.

Christopher Willis
Director, The Book of Disquiet

I wanted to thank Christopher Willis for reaching out with the opportunity to write music for his film. This is something I've always wanted to do. We have all been moved by movies and I think the music is a major factor in that equation.
I also wanted to thank my mom and dad Lois and Kevin and my brother Thomas for all of their love, support, and most of all patience.
